Quality Assurance
The Skills Academy for Health - Core Learning Unit follows a rigorous Quality Assurance Policy / Framework for its learning provision within Health and Social Care.
It has five inter-related elements which are:
- Benchmarks and quality standards
- Approval of programmes
- Ongoing quality monitoring and enhancement
- Major review
- Shared evidence on which conclusions and judgements are based
Ongoing quality monitoring and enhancement of the Skills Academy for Health - Core Learning Unit’s programmes is a process by which Education Commissioners and regulators within Health and Care satisfy themselves that the quality of educational programmes provided by the unit is maintained and improved in the interim period between:
- Initial approval and the first Major Review and,
- One Major Review and the next
The enhancement element of programmes (revision) is considered as important a part of the process as the monitoring of standards. All stakeholders involved in the process (Expert Reference Groups, etc.) must be satisfied that the provision has been enhanced by the activities undertaken to raise the quality of the learning programmes.
Ongoing quality monitoring includes all activity that previously occurred on a regular ongoing basis (e.g. 6-monthly meetings of Expert Reference Groups, internal monitoring/pilots within the service, data from questionnaires accessed at learner, facilitator and organisational levels following completion of learning programmes.) Ongoing quality monitoring takes place continuously and requires participation by stakeholders, but will be formally monitored annually by the Core Learning Unit.
